Carine Redmond’s top 3 tips for being “Media Ready”
Carine, owner of Carine Redmond and Associates, handles Western Canada PR for national and global lifestyle brands and talent. Having worked with Etsy Canada and other notable brands, she has a unique insight into what the press looks for and how sellers can prepare to be Media Ready.
1. Prepare your images!
It’s all about making it as simple as possible for the Press to access your images with ease. Have hi-res imagery on hand, organized into a dropbox folder and ready to share. Take the time to craft interesting and accurate product and brand descriptions – so many Sellers are lacking this and it’s key! Thinking of whether to invest in professional images? Do it . . . it’s 100% worth it and will save you a ton of time.
2. Get Personal.
Carve out the time to share your background story on your website or Etsy shop. Did you start this shop with your mom? Learn how to paint from your Aunt or are you self taught? Were you a corporate ladder climber in your previous career? It’s all relevant to who you are today and helps Press understand why your story is worth sharing.
3. Why you?
Sure, your family and friends know your product is one-of-a-kind but does anyone else? As the Press swim through an ocean of Sellers and retailers, throw them a line by communicating how your product differs, is unique and stands out.
Reaching out to Media can be intimidating but with preparation, practice and a few friendly tips, you’ll become more confident and have a feel for what they’re after. Now go get ’em!
